PANP18 - Day 2 | What’s New in the Treatment of Acne

James Del Rosso, DO officially started off the conference with a thorough review of the therapeutic options available to treat this challenging disease. In his presentation, Dr. Del Rosso provided a logical template for the treatment of acne, which he supplemented with up-to-date findings from current literature.

In his discussion, Dr. Del Rosso covered the use of such regimens as adapalene/benzoyl peroxide gel plus doxycycline, clindamycin/tretinoin gel, benzoyl peroxide ointment, azelaic acid foam, dapsone gel, oral antibiotics including doxycycline and minocycline, and oral isotretinoin. He combined published laboratory data and clinical pearls from his personal experience to build a compelling narrative.

He concluded his lecture with a cautionary statement about potential upcoming changes in approaches to laboratory monitoring in patients taking standard doses of oral isotretinoin, based on a recent meta-analysis suggesting that monthly laboratory testing may not provide additional benefit over less-frequent testing.
